“Whether you’re looking for kitchen and bath ideas, basement solutions, or a contractor to bid on an addition, you’ll find help and encouragement on the 30th annual Minneapolis & Saint Paul Home Tour. From the very old homes to the very new, city dwellers open their doors to share their home improvement experiences.” —Minneapolis & Saint Paul Home Tour website
Started in 1988 by the City of Minneapolis and joined a year later by the City of Saint Paul, this annual event celebrates city living and encourages homeowners to live in the metro area instead of moving to the suburbs. Attendees appreciate the opportunity to see completed projects in person and speak with remodeling and home building professionals about their own projects. We’d love to have you stop by and say hello!
1599 & 1601 Jefferson Avenue, Saint Paul
Saturday, April 29 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Sunday, April 30 from 1 – 5 p.m.
FREE to attend
As sisters co-owning a duplex for many years, our clients felt it was time to breathe new life into each of their kitchens. Both kitchens were cramped, outdated, and secluded from the rest of the unit. They hired us to find out if there was a way to open the kitchen to the rest of the living space and keep the integrity of the house intact. In the end, they decided to knock out the wall separating the kitchen and dining room. The kitchen has become a highlight and feels just right—our clients have received comments that the floor plan feels original.
The sisters decided that each kitchen layout would be the same, but what is unique is how each kitchen fits their individual personalities. The upstairs kitchen has a more traditional aesthetic and features cream cabinets with a green beadboard backsplash, while the downstairs is more contemporary in style and features blue subway tile and a combination of blue and white cabinetry. Hardware, stone selections, light fixtures, and wallpaper coordinate with each style.
Find a printed guide with maps showing home locations at select libraries in April; guides are also available at each home during the tour. Check out the Minneapolis & Saint Paul Home Tour website for more information.
